Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Surgical Technology Program at Oklahoma City Community College, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate Surgical Competence - Apply principles of surgical technology to safely and effectively perform the roles and responsibilities of the surgical technologist in the perioperative environment.
  • Maintain Aseptic Technique and Patient Safety - Consistently implement sterile techniques, infection control practices, and patient safety measures in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Utilize Clinical Judgment and Critical Thinking - Integrate clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to anticipate surgical team needs and respond appropriately during surgical procedures.
  • Communicate and Collaborate Professionally - Demonstrate effective communication, teamwork, and professional behavior while collaborating with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Exhibit Ethical and Professional Practice - Adhere to ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice, including accountability, cultural sensitivity, confidentiality, and commitment to lifelong learning within the surgical technology profession.
